Can dogs eat coconut milk?

Dogs can have coconut milk in very small quantities, but caution is necessary. Pure, unsweetened coconut milk is non-toxic to dogs and contains beneficial medium-chain fatty acids that support coat health and reduce inflammation.

However, commercial coconut milk often contains high fat levels, which can trigger stomach upset, loose stools, or pancreatitis if consumed in large amounts. Additionally, packaged versions may contain additives like guar gum, carrageenan, or added sugars. Offer only plain, unsweetened coconut milk—a tablespoon or two mixed into food—and avoid canned coconut cream, which is far too rich for canine digestion.
