Is agave better than honey?
Whether agave syrup is better than honey depends on your dietary goals. Agave nectar is plant-based, making it suitable for vegans, and it has a lower glycemic index (GI) than honey, causing a slower rise in blood glucose levels.
However, agave nectar is heavily processed and contains very high levels of fructose (up to 85%), which can strain the liver if consumed in excess. Raw honey contains beneficial enzymes, trace pollen, and antioxidants, but it is higher in glucose and not vegan. For vegans, agave is preferred; for whole-food nutrition, raw local honey holds the advantage. Both should be consumed mindfully.
