What is the biggest fruit in the world?
Jackfruit holds the official record as the largest tree-borne fruit in the world. A single jackfruit can reach up to 3 feet (90 centimeters) in length, 20 inches (50 centimeters) in diameter, and weigh anywhere from 10 to 120 pounds (4.5 to 55 kilograms).
The massive fruit grows directly on the trunk and main branches of the jackfruit tree (Artocarpus heterophyllus), which is native to South and Southeast Asia. Because of its massive size and dense concentration of nutrients, carbohydrates, and dietary fiber, jackfruit is considered an important food security crop in tropical regions. A single fruit can yield dozens of sweet, edible pods along with edible seeds, providing substantial nourishment from a single tree harvest.
